adopt a puppy?

Now that I've had a dog-free 5 days, still debating about a replacement for Ditto. Should I get one? Will I be able to care for it?
My next dilemma-should it be pure breed? or a stray? a puppy or an adult? an abandoned dog?
Unfortunately, my ability to care is not the only factor. Do I have the stamina to field all the jibes, and even a near-assault that are directed at dog owners? Things that are tolerated from stray dogs are unbearable from pets.

True, my health will suffer. Solitary walks are no pleasure and already given up.

On my morning dog-walk today, saw 3 springs in the middle of the asphalt, one quite giving rise to a rivulet--all leaks in the underground water pipes. and a few puddles caused by car-washing and footpath cleaning. The rangoli in front of the doorstep is welcome, but people do ignore the puddle in front of their neighbour's.
Walk fairly normal, with just a few tugs to try to change route to his (dog's) choices. Seem to have covered three and a half kilometers with only two rest periods.
